Full day of 'Mapping GMP' sessions at IAMCR conference

This year's conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) in Braga, Portugal, will feature three sessions that deal with Mapping Global Media Policy. All of them will take place on Monday, 19 July, the first day of the conference. The project team is looking forward to interesting debates and feedback.

Session 1 - Presentation
Mapping Global Media Policy: The Project

An introduction to the GMP Mapping Project, including its recently launched web-based platform, database, tools for visual representation, and suggestions for applying the project in education and research.

Session 2 - Roundtable
Mapping Global Media Policy: Connecting initiatives

Different IAMCR members who have contributed to the GMP Mapping Project and have been involved in similar initiatives will discuss the role of “mapping” in making sense of global media policy. Scenarios of use in mapping the field will be considered in areas like education and training (connecting people), scientific analysis (connecting knowledge), and policy-oriented interventions (connecting stakes), in view to foster collaboration between institutions and existing initiatives.

Session 3 - Workshop
Mapping Global Media Policy: Hands-on Workshop and Partnership-building
Chair: Arne Hintz (McGill University/Central European University)

This workshop will offer interested IAMCR members instructions and insights to become effective users of the project platform and collaborators with the project. The aim is to foster the creation of an IAMCR ‘GMP mapping community’ through partnerships and cooperation on specific media policy issues areas and policy processes.
