Build your Island of Global Media Policy!
With the resource database on this website now fully set up, and thus a framework to map communication policy in place, the process of creating content and of using this database for research, training and advocacy purposes can begin. For this endeavour, the Mapping Global Media Policy Steering Committee seeks active collaboration from researchers, students, activists, and other users.
In particular, we would like to invite interested users to build thematic sections of the platform - 'islands', as we call them. An 'island' may be a clearly defined topic, a discrete policy debate, an institutional actor with its network relations, or a set of related policy documents. Building an 'island' means using the platform to gather, organize, analyze and visualize an exhaustive set of data on a specific topic or debate.
An 'island' may be based on a research project that you are currently working on, the student projects in the class that you are teaching, or an advocacy-oriented initiative that requires knowledge on a policy field. The platform can be a useful framework to enhance data collection and analysis for all these.
On this website you will find a document which explains in more detail the possible uses of the platform, what we mean by an 'island', and how to build one: http://www.globalmediapolicy.net/sites/default/files/Scenarios_of_Use_Aug2010.pdf
If you would like to create an 'island', or you wonder how your current research project or the class projects of your students can become one, or you would just like to insert a few profiles, please contact us at policymapping@iamcr.org. We would like to discuss with you how you can be involved.
