Short Bio

Tony Peter Clement, PC, MP is a Canadian politician, federal Minister of Industry, Minister for the Federal Economic Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor) and member of the Conservative Party of Canada. During his private sector career, Mr. Clement has been a lawyer, a business board member and a small business owner and entrepreneur.

Additional Information

In November of 2009, Minister Clement was involved in a debate over a CRTC ruling blocking Egyptian-backed Globalive from launching cellular phone service in Canada. The Globe and Mail reported that he was warned that overturning such a ruling "would effectively undo Canada's restrictions on foreign ownership of telecom companies.
That would be unfair, market players say, because other firms stayed within existing ownership rules when bidding for frequencies in the 2008 wireless spectrum auction."
